JOB DESCRIPTION

Partial Job Description
1) Conduct risk assessments and advise study directors and Toxicology staff on technical issues
2) Assist sr. scientists with reviewing and critiquing reports as well as problem-solving of test failures and unexpected results
3) Advise clients in study design of special toxicology studies
4) Oversee direct reports and indirect technical reports relationship with the Study Director group
5) Provide critical review of protocols and final reports for scientific integrity and regulatory compliance
6) Act as a technical expert by assisting laboratory with the interpretation of test results and impact to the client
7) Assist in failure investigations identifying root cause and corrective/preventive action
8) Identify and develop ways to improve the technical/scientific skills and professional competency of study directors
9) Actively work to help develop critical thinking skills and technical aptitude of the Study Director group
10) Oversee training plan for study directors for effectiveness
11) Participate in audits conducted by clients or regulatory bodies
12) Address technical observations or recommendations and implement corrective/preventative actions where necessary
13) Meet/exceed client expectations by providing exceptional customer service (e.g., timely communications to client inquiries, anticipating client needs, etc.)
14) Travel when needed to meet clients
15) Mentor other associates to develop professional communication and scientific skills, a greater understanding of toxicology and awareness of industrial/regulatory expectations
16) Act as a Study Director when required
17) Serve as an industry expert through active publishing, public speaking and involvement in scientific/technical committees
18) Stay abreast of current and new test methods, preclinical regulatory and testing requirements
19) Act as a resource disseminating information to clients and associates
20) Ensure that department adheres and supports to as well as implements all corporate policies and SOPs
21) Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., USFDA GLP and GMP)
22) Communicate openly with peers and management and rely on company's elements of communication excellence
23) Understand and comply with company quality policy and vision statement
24) Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing and enforcing organizational safety standards and adhering to regulations
25) Maintain confidentiality in accordance with company's confidentiality agreement
26) Ensure department meets annual business objectives and corporate goals (e.g., financial, on-time performance, quality)
27) Perform other duties as directed

CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Qualifications / Skills Required
    1) PhD in Toxicology
    2) Board certification (DABT) preferred
    3) Minimum 10+ years of related experience
    4) Understanding of toxicology and/or the scientific basis for testing performed at company
    5) Knowledge of applicable guidelines and regulations
    6) Applied business, organizational and supervisory skills
    7) Excellent verbal and written communication skills
