Software Quality Assurance Engineer II


The Jackson Laboratory, located in Bar Harbor, ME is seeking a SQA Engineer II for software quality assurance activities for research, science and business applications in regulated and unregulated environments. The SQA Engineer will review functional requirements documentation; design test plans, write manual and automated test cases, oversee test strategies and perform testing for assigned applications. The SQA Engineer will submit and verify defects, communicate project and testing status to internal and external teams.   You will be working in a fast paced and exciting organization with a chance to contribute to applications that advance the quest to improve human health! 


Key Responsibilities:


  • Analyze system requirements and identify testing strategies that maximize test coverage and/or improve system reliability and performance
  • Understand functional use of system and be able to translate this into accurate and realistic exploratory tests
  • Prepare detailed test plans and test cases, and consult with business analysts on testing options and strategies, including applicable regulatory requirements
  • Execute and monitor testing activities and ensure they are completed as expected
  • Track, report and verify software defects to  ensure the resolution of issues found
  • Develop and execute validation plans for major system activities including new system installations, upgrades, and other change events
  • Develop and maintain new and existing automation to improve test efficiency




  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with at least 3 years’ experience or Master’s degree with at least 2 years’ experience. Other means of acquiring this knowledge may be satisfied by at least 7 years of working experience in software quality testing or related discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) models, and Quality Assurance (QA) methodologies is required
  • Experience in the validation of Web application in an agile environment is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience using and/or reviewing a modern programming language such as C# or Java, C# preferred
  • Strong ability to build functional expertise to accurately perform exploratory testing
  • Demonstrated experience with the Selenium automation toolset or equivalent skills
  • Hands on experience with the Visual Studio IDE a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem skills as well as an attention to details
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing test plans and test scripts
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve desired business results
  • Positive attitude and professional manner in all interactions; demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment while consistently maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. Ability to be flexible and multi-task.
  • Detail-oriented and meticulous, with proven, excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to produce data of high quality and to troubleshoot when necessary
