JOB DESCRIPTION

This role is responsible for the running all aspects of the Product Design service line within Covance Food Solutions including service lines of Product and Process Development, Consumer and Sensory Research. Management responsibilities include Client Service, Research Design and client proposals, research execution, analysis and reporting. All operating groups within Product Design report to this individual, including operations for consumer and sensory testing, all sensory panels, client consulting and research sales/design activities and pilot manufacturing. 

 

The executive in this role will drive new business innovation; seek, evaluate and integrate mergers and acquisition targets; ensure continuous and profitable growth of this service line. Assure quality technical and client service targets are achieved.

  • Responsible for the technical, operational and client service operations at the global level for the Product Design service line in Covance Food Solutions business.
  • Responsible for staffing, managing and optimizing the talent within the Product Design business. This includes restructuring of systems and processes to ensure the most cost effective and efficient processes.
  • Develop and execute the build out and growth of the CFS Product Design service line.
  • Provide guidance and technical materials to aid in marketing efforts as conducted by the Commercial team. Manage on-going marketing efforts with client companies as part of routine communication and contact.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulatory and certification guidelines (e.g. GXP, FDA, USDA, etc)
  • Acts as a lead consultant with strategic clients in partnership with sales team, and acts as executive sponsor to key clients.
  • Identifies, establishes, reviews and delivers potential targets for acquisition/merger growth.
  • Supports strategy development including long term capital planning, market positions and business planning for Covance Food Solutions business.
  • Drives process improvement efforts globally by working with the Covance Food Solutions Executive Leadership team to identify key business priorities and initiatives.
  • Ensures integration of acquisitions or long term relationships with other research and testing facilities for the purpose of providing a Covance competitive advantage.
  • Drive culture change and be a catalyst in creating a team environment focused on exceeding our client expectations.
  • Partners effectively across the Covance Food Solutions, Covance and LabCorp businesses
  • Advanced degree in one of the following key disciplines: food science, sensory evaluation, marketing research, marketing or other applied technical or scientific field.
  • Additional MBA or business degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of leadership and management experience
  • Experience holding a senior or executive level position in the food industry. Additional experience with consumer and branded products in retail environment desired.
  • Influence and impact on C suite executives
  • Ability to work in a large scientific organization with a highly matrixed structure
  • Strong strategic planning, communication, process and business acumen
